CHARLOTTE CITY COUNCIL PLANNING TO SILENCE THE CHURCH'S VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS

Updated: Jun 26, 2019

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 6/26/2019<<

On Monday night, June 24th, the Charlotte City Council voted 8 to 3 in favor of updates to the sound ordinance that would include buffer zones around Charlotte abortion centers. An estimated 500 people from area churches flooded the Government Center in Charlotte to voice their displeasure with the proposed updates and the apparent bias shown by members of the city council towards the abortion center. Many people were able to address the council before the vote was taken and boldly spoke the truth about the one sided nature of the ordinance as well as the unintended effects it is likely to have.

We are exceedingly grateful for council members Ed Driggs, Tariq Bokhari and Gregory Phippes for voting against this new ordinance.

In the wake of the vote to implement Noise Buffers around abortion centers, there are many questions about how this will impact the ministry taking place outside of abortion centers in Charlotte. We will provide specific details in the days to come as there is a great deal of information being passed around. For now, this is what we do know:

  • Our God is greater than any ordinance or noise buffer.

  • We are hitting the mark; Satan is angry at the work being done and the lives being changed through the Local Church.

  • Prayer walks will continue as normal with no immediate impact.

  • The Church must show up like never before.

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 5/21/19<<

On December 2nd, 2017, during our Week 40 Celebrate Life Prayer Walk, Charlotte City Council member Larken Egleston was caught on camera discussing with a pro-choice demonstrator, how the city council is working to silence Love Life and other pro-life organizations. Larken can be heard in this video revealing a plan to "figure out how to define what they can and can't do." "They" refers to Love Life and other pro-life groups.

On that same date in 2017, three other council members, Justin Harlow, Julie Eiselt and Braxton Winston were also present surveying the situation and conversing with abortion center staff during the prayer walk. While some outlets reported that they were present to speak to both sides, no one from the city council made any attempt to speak with representatives of Love Life.

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 5/15/19<<

As we continue to report on the ongoing efforts of the Charlotte City Council to silence the voice of The Church, we want to highlight a few specific moments from the Safety Committee Meeting on March 20th. Three abortion activists from Reproductive Rights Coalition were present where no one from Love Life was informed of the meeting or invited to attend. In this clip, council members very clearly express their goal of using noise buffers as a "tool" to deal with an "ongoing issue." Namely, the pro-life groups who gather outside to contend for the lives of the unborn.

The city council has been on the side of the Latrobe abortion center and working to silence pro-life activity outside the clinic for years. As we've reported, this issue is deep rooted and ongoing.

With the city council preparing to vote on implementing noise buffers around the abortion center on June 24th, we're asking you to contact the city council members and voice your concern over their behavior.

-City Council asked the City Manager to study the following:

SUSPICIOUS COUNCIL MEMBER QUOTES/SAFETY COMMITTEE

This meeting exposes that City Council is using the Sound ordinance as a smokescreen for their bias against a particular group for the content of their speech..

“A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-Referencing changing the ordinance to silence the church

-The record shows they were planning to use the Sound Ordinances to silence the church since 2017 and waiting for the best opportunity to do so

-City Council has already made up it’s mind and these so called Committee meetings are disingenuous and being used as a way to pretend to be unbias, partial and care about what the people think.

“WE’VE BEEN DEALING WITH ONE ISSUE”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-Over the 4 years we’ve been out there we have fully abided by the law, 40,000+ people, 200+ churches, 1400+ families have heard their options and have been helped, not ONCE were any laws broken by those gathering with us.

-City Council is looking to change the law to SILENCE us, because they have no legal standing under the current law

-Does the City Council care about women being given choices and do they realize their actions appear to be trying to take away women’s choice?

“FRUSTRATING BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE THE ORDINANCE IN PLACE”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-City Council openly admits that they are looking to change the law to accomplish their agenda of silencing the church

-If the City Council members are looking to change the law because they are frustrated that the current law doesn’t meet their objective to silence the church, can they be trusted?

“I FEEL THE FRUSTRATION OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-City Council appears to be openly admitting their personal bias towards the abortion center's issue with the content of our speech

"IF THIS COMMITTEE DOESN’T DO ANYTHING ELSE, WE NEED TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THAT ISSUE…SO WE CAN’T USE BARRIERS BECAUSE IT’S A PUBLIC STREET THAT THEY ARE PICKETING ON”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-City Council has openly admitted that the highest priority of that meeting was to find a way to silence the church

-City Council’s intent to silence the church is illustrated by his stating that since barriers wont work they need to find a solution and change the current sound laws to do it

“IT’S NOT SO MUCH THE NOISE, IT’S THE ACCESS”

(James Mitchell Jr., City Council Member)

-City Council Member openly admits that sound really isn’t the issue, proving these proceeding are a cover up to oppose the church

“THAT MIGHT BE WHAT YOU HEARD, BUT WE DON”T ALLOW PEOPLE TO BLOCK ACCESS TO ANY BUSINESSOR FACILITY”

(Police Chief Putney)

-Police Chief directly refuting what City Council has stated as a fact. This untruth is being used to justify silencing the church.

“THIS IS WHERE REALLY THE BUFFER ZONE COMES IN AS A TOOL...NOW WE HAVE TO GET MORE DEFINED ON THE PERIPHERY”

(Justin Harlow, City Council Member)

-This comment proves that City Council is using the Sound Ordinance to accomplish their attempts to silence the church

-Is the City Council allowed to be used by the abortion business to prevent families from hearing all of thier choices and enhance their profit margin

“THAT’S REALLY WHAT THE CHARGE IS, HOW DO WE WRITE THAT IN TO SOME TYPE OF TEXT THAT MAKES SENSE…HOW DO WE GET TO A POINT WHERE WE ACTUALLY GET SOMETHING ON PAPER”

(Justin Harlow, City Council Member)

-This City Council openly admits that the real and only reason for the meeting is the rewrite the law to silence the church and oppose our exercising our First Amendment rights to free speech.

“ONCE YOU GET THERE, YOU HAVE TO FACTOR IN A PUBLIC UH PRIVATELY OWNED PROPERTY THEN” “IF I HAVE A PRIVATE PLOT OF LAND, WHAT YOUR SAYING DOESN’T…”

(Police Chief Putney)

-We are the only ones with private pieces of land, their assertion that we are not being targeted is proven false

SO DEPUTY CITY MANAGER, IS THAT ANOTHER CATEGORY WE NEED TO ESTABLISH?

(Justin Harlow, City Council Member)

-This comment reveals the true intention is to keep creating ordinances until we are silenced, even if it's private property

Justin Harlow (City Council Member and Chair of Neighborhood Development Committee) email response to citizen's complaint:

“THE PROPOSED CHANGES ONLY ADDRESS WHERE THIS FREE SPEECH CAN OCCUR"

-He admits that he is determining where free speech can occur

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 4/17/19<<

NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE RECAP

-Committee proposes to penalize anyone using any amplified sound within 200 feet of the Abortion Center's property line increasing fines

-Council members on the Neighborhood Development Committee vote to push forward the Noise Ordinance changes for a full vote of the City Council

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 4/13/19<<

As we attempt to work with community leaders who seem determined to silence our voice, we want to first say THANK YOU for your support. More than ever, we are aware that this battle is truly a spiritual one. Moving forward, the Neighborhood Development Committee will meet and vote this Wednesday April 17th on a plan that will include Noise Buffers around the Latrobe Abortion Center.

We need you to call and email the city council members and voice your opposition to these new and unconstitutional ordinances. Below you will find names, phone numbers and email addresses of the specific council members we are asking you to contact.

  • PLEASE EXPRESS THAT NO FUTHER RESTRICTIONS ARE NEEDED ON SOUND ORDINANCES

  • THESE SOUND BUFFERS ARE A DIRECT ASSAULT ON OUR 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHT.

It is urgent that as many people as possible contact the city council members and voice their frustration with these proposed noise barriers.

>>IMPORTANT UPDATE 4/10/19<<

There was a phenomenal response from the church at the recent City Council feedback sessions. Many were able to voice their concerns about the proposed noise buffer zones being an infringement on their First Amendment Right to Free Speech. During the meeting, dozens gathered outside the Belmont Center for a time of prayer and worship. You can see video from the gathering below as well as hear responses from concerned citizens in a clip from WBT Charlotte News Radio.

Following the community feedback sessions, the City Council has formed a Neighborhood Development Committee that plans to vote on proposed noise ordinance changes on Wednesday April 17th at 12 PM.

We are asking supporters to attend the meeting and voice their opposition to the proposed changes. The entire conversation surrounding noise buffers and changes to existing noise ordinances is an attempt by the city council to silence our voice. Watch the video below for clarity on the situation at large and make plans to attend the Neighborhood Development Committee Meeting on Wednesday April 17th.

PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETING ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 17th

PLEASE ATTEND UPCOMING FEEDBACK SESSION REGARDING NEW NOISE BUFFERS MEANT TO SILENCE THE CHURCH

The city council is planning two opportunities for community members to provide feedback on the suggested noise buffers. THIS MONDAY AND TUESDAY, (April 8th and 9th) council members will gather to hear feedback from members of the community regarding the proposed noise buffers.

Let's pack the meetings with HUNDREDS of people like we did a year ago!

It is imperative the church makes its voice heard NOW before new ordinances go into place that will in essence silence our voice for the voiceless children in the womb, in and around Charlotte. Even if you do not speak in the meeting, your presence will speak volumes.

>>ORIGINAL ARTICLE<<

Charlotte City Council once again is trying to silence the voice of Christians on life. They are trying to impose a sound buffer around "Medical Facilities" A.K.A. abortion centers. This is a direct infringement of free speech. They have tried in the past to impose "No Parking" in this area but the church rose up and filled the city council chamber with over 500 people in attendance standing for life.

At our 2017 Week 40, Celebrate Life Prayer Walk there were several City Council Members in attendance. They spent most of their time standing in the parking lot of the abortion center making clear, their opposition to the Church coming out to pray. One of our cameras caught a council member on video discussing their intention to find a way to stop the prayer walks. It appears as though what we have seen City Council do recently has been in the works for a while.

We will be exposing what we know when we know it. More to come...

They took the voice of the preborn. And now they are planning to take the voice of the Church for the preborn. We saw this same thing happen in Nazi Germany.

The City Council is conducting an online survey on this topic and may try to use the results to support their opposition to us. See the suggested answers and take the City Council Survey to stand up against this injustice. Survey closes on Monday 4/8/19 , please take the survey A.S.A.P. by clicking HERE

To view the full video of the conversation from the recent City Council "Safety Meeting" , watch below and go to the 1 hour & 8 minute mark where they start discussing more specifics.
